Kia ora from Mrs. Tyson and Mrs Yates and the Room 5 Numeracy Class in Week 3.
This week we all changed rooms and moved to our Maths Interchange Class for 2013.
This will be for week 3 and then from week 6 onwards for the rest of the year.
During weeks 4 & 5 the classes will be at camp.
Our class is learning how our brain works and how this will help us learn in Maths.
One way of opening the filters in our brain ready for learning, is to start the day with a Provocative Statement'. You can see today's statement and what we came up with below.
Also, Sophie decided, after one day in the class, that she would create ways to solve a number at home. We have included her page as well.
We are all starting on addition and subtraction and we are practising all our basic facts at speed.

Kia ora from Shirley Tyson
For Term One this year, Mrs. Yates and I are taking Room 5 for Mathematics. This means for the first two weeks that we will have the home room class until we start our Numeracy Interchange classes. We are enjoying our time with Room 5 and we have been focussing on knowledge activities and a variety of ways to solve Maths Problems. So far we have looked at three approaches:
These approaches will help students to solve problems throughout the year.
We have also been assessing knowledge and strategies to help with sorting for Interchange Classes.
There are some amazing mathematicians in Room 5.
- Make A Diagram
- Guess and Check
- Use a Table or Chart
These approaches will help students to solve problems throughout the year.
We have also been assessing knowledge and strategies to help with sorting for Interchange Classes.
